We know these cars and have the tools to check them, so they’re up to scratch for an easier retirement — saving you money storing the home-made energy you produce. The cost per kWh is unbeatable compared with off the shelf solar batteries, plus these packs are massively over engineered making them a great choice.
Pickup from Taupō or freight anywhere in NZ. All the batteries we sell come with a 1 year warranty and are tested prior to sale.

Dala’s EV Repair — LEAF pack on a Fronius Gen24
Proof of concept. Easiest-connect pitch from Dala running a Fronius inverter with a Nissan LEAF battery. Official how-to is further down.
What Battery-Emulator does
Battery-Emulator (Daniel Öster / dalathegreat) is a translation layer between a complete EV pack and a hybrid solar inverter. The pack stays intact. Hardware is typically a Stark CMR (CE certified) or LilyGo T-2CAN. The inverter thinks it is talking to a supported HV home battery — often BYD HVS/HVM protocol.

Compatible inverters
Star ratings are from the Dala Battery-Emulator inverter wiki: 3 stars = fully compatible, multiple success stories, beginner friendly. 2 stars = works with limitations. Compatibility is between the emulator and the inverter. Drive EV does not certify or warrant third-party inverters. A licensed NZ electrician should confirm the exact model and firmware.
| Brand | Product | Phases | Wiki | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fronius | Primo Gen24 Plus | 1-phase | ★★★ · 150–455 V | Precharge in the inverter. Common in NZ. |
| Fronius | Symo Gen24 Plus | 3-phase | ★★★ · 160–531 V | Precharge in the inverter. Common in NZ. |
| Fronius | Verto Plus 15–33 kW | 3-phase | ★★★ · 150–700 V | Wiki: same family as Gen24. |
| Fronius | Symo Hybrid 3.0 / 4.0 / 5.0-3-S | 3-phase | ★★★ · 150–455 V | Legacy hybrid. 3-star on the wiki. |
| GoodWeDrive EV recommends | ET hybrid | 3-phase | ★★★ | 3-star hybrid. |
| GoodWeDrive EV recommends | BT AC battery | 3-phase | ★★★ | 3-star AC-coupled battery inverter. |
| GoodWeDrive EV recommends | EH hybrid | 1-phase | ★★★ | 3-star hybrid. |
| GoodWeDrive EV recommends | BH AC battery | 1-phase | ★★★ | 3-star AC-coupled battery inverter. |
| SMA | Sunny Boy Smart Energy | 1-phase | ★★★ · 90–500 V | Wiki: needs its own CAN channel — cannot share the EV-battery CAN. |
| SMA | Sunny Tripower SE 5.0–10.0 | 3-phase | ★★★ · 150–600 V | Wiki: needs its own CAN channel — cannot share the EV-battery CAN. |
| Solis | Various 1-phase / 3-phase | 1 or 3 | ★★★ · 120–800 V typical | Wiki: protocol works for most models; voltage range differs — check the exact unit. |
| Deye | SUN-(5-20)K-SG01HP3-EU-AM2 (HV HP3) | 3-phase | ★★★ | This is the high-voltage HP3 row on Dala’s wiki — not the low-voltage 5–8 kW Deye kits often sold in NZ. Wiki caveat: Deye may ignore a 0 W charge-stop; Dala documents a software workaround. A licensed electrician should confirm the exact HV model. |
| Sunsynk | Deye rebrand (HV) | 3-phase | ★★★ | Wiki: BYD_CAN and PYLON_CAN both work. Same HV family as Deye HP3, not a 48 V kit. |
